The toughest touring jacket ever madeWhen Belstaff made a commitment to provide the clothing for Ewan and Charley on their Long Way Down trip failure quite simply was not an option. Of course they could have weighed up the risks like KTM did with the first trip and walked away but they had confidence in their ability to produce a world class product so like BMW they hopped on board for the ride.
Belstaff knew that the world1s eyes would be on their clothing. It had to look good be practical take everything the boys could throw at it and bring them home safely. This was a no expense spared exercise; the clothing had to exceed every current standard. It had to be the best. Well it worked. The two intrepid adventurers were delighted with their outfits which never let them down once.
And so in recognition of their achievement Belstaff has created an extremely limited edition of jackets which are identical in every respect to the one worn on the trip. We were originally told that jacket would be available in both the colours worn by Charley and Ewan but for some reason Charley1s brown jacket will not make it to the UK. The only version we will see over here is the grey one worn by Ewan.
There1s some good news and there1s some bad on the jackets. The good news is that the jackets are available today. We have a sizeable quantity right here in our warehouse. The bad news is that less than 50 pieces have made it to the UK. You1ll need to move quickly.
The jacket to end all jacketsMany high quality bike jackets are constructed from Cordura 500. The Long Way Down jacket though is made from Cordura 1500; we didn1t even know Cordura this strong existed! It1s so sturdy that if you had to be dragged down a road behind a tractor this is the jacket you1d choose. It1s tough tough tough.
Inside is a second jacket that is fully waterproof and windproof. This can be zipped out if desired. But inside this jacket is another one (it1s a bit like those Russian dolls this jacket) that has built into it the CE approved armour that sits in the shoulders and on the elbows. So in effect this is three jackets for the price of one (more about the price later!). There1s no thermal liner though. The theory is thatif you want warmth you add a fleece or similar.
Let1s look at the other details. Well on the front you1ve got four pockets. The lower ones have two compartments one of which zips close. Throughout the jacket you have vented openings; in the sleeves on the chest and in the back. If you really want the ultimate in Al Fresco riding you can even remove the sleeves.
Wherever you look on this jacket you find fantastic detailing that set this garment apart from any you1ll ever come across. Details like the buttonhole to allow the passage of a Camel back straw; details like a zip out document wallet in the back of the jacket; details like an internal elastic gripper belt to stop the jacket riding up and a zip panel that can be sewn into any trouser to make it into a suit.
We can1t categorically say that this is definitely the best motorcycle jacket ever made but this effort from Belstaff feels very special indeed. Over the years we1ve sampled just about every motorcycle brand out therebut we have to say that Belstaff has done a terrific job and created a jacket that is a match for anything. But this one has something just a little but special. It1s rarer than hen1s teeth and we don1t think they1ll be around for long. But in addition to its rarity value it also has star appeal.
